Reports from Fiji says the deputy military commander, Captain Esala Teleni, is the new police commissioner.
The website fijilive says this has been confirmed by the chairman of the Constitutional Offices Commission, Rishi Ram.
Captain Teleni was one of three applicants interviewed for the post this week.
The other two were the acting police commissioner Romanu Tikotikoca and former senior police officer, Tuikacivi Matewai.
Captain Teleni will replace Andrew Hughes of Australia who left Fiji in the days before the December coup.
Mr Hughes was succeeded by three acting police commissioners.
