LBJ hospital employee in American Samoa under investigation

9:18 am on 9 June 2007

An employee of the LBJ hospital business office in American Samoa has been placed on leave without pay while an investigation is underway into alleged improprieties in the handling of payments for tests.

An initial investigation by the hospital shows that the employee intercepted checks made payable to the hospital and had a company reissue them in the name of hospital employees.

The payments were from an insurance company for physical tests of clients.

It's suspected that the employee arranged with the company to pay those who were conducting the physicals on the side when the money should have been paid to LBJ.
