A Marshall Islands immigration official who apparently acted without approval is being investigated for arresting a Fiji citizen who has been working there since 2005.
Majuro Motors manager, Anoop Kumar, said he lodged a complaint with the Attorney General's office and Immigration over the arrest of one of his workers.
He said the man's detention sends the wrong message to businesses and potential investors.
The Attorney General, Posesi Bloomfield, said that if it was found the action was malicious, the officer involved would be disciplined.
Mr Kumar suspects that the arrest of one of his employees was a personal retaliation after a court judgment instructing an immigration official to pay a 900 US dollar debt for car repairs.
