American Samoa can expect an exodus of local tradesmen when the U.S. military begins construction work in Guam.

The Samoa News reports that American Samoa Governor, Togiola Tulafono, mentioned this problem during a meeting with local officials last week regarding new trades and technical programmes to support the territory's private sector.

The newspaper quotes the Governor as saying that American Samoa can expect workers to leave when the U.S. military begins construction to accommodate 8,000 U.S. marines who are being transferred from Okinawa, Japan.

The governor says American Samoa's construction sectorcould be left vulnerable.
