Cargo ship restocks Niue with food and fuel

1:23 pm on 12 June 2007

The Auckland-based cargo boat Southern Tiare has arrived in Niue with stocks of food, frozen goods, fuel and building supplies.

Petrol and diesel have been running low and motorists were last week urged not to panic buy, after the island went without went a shipping service for nearly a month.

Traders say it'll be another month before the vessel returns to its fortnighly schedule out of Auckland due to a charter to Vanuatu.

They have assured Niueans that there are now sufficient stocks of essential food items to last until the next shipment.
