FAA inspects American Samoan airport facilities

10:21 am on 14 June 2007

An official from the Federal Aviation Administration is currently in American Samoa inspecting airport facilities on Tutuila and Manua to determine if they meet FAA safety standards.

The annual FAA inspection covers runway markings and lighting, airport certification manuals, airport fire crash facilities and training of personnel.

Acting Airport Manager David Fuimaono says this inspection determines the compliance of local airports with safety guidelines and FAA grant regulations.

Last year's inspection found that runway markings needed to be repainted and lighting had to be replaced.

Fuimaono says these conditions are being addressed with runway repairs currently underway.
