An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale has been recorded below Papua New Guinea's island of New Britain.
There are no immediate reports of damage from the affected region.
A Geophysical Survey of PNG official in the capital says the quake occurred somewhere under the coast near the East New Britain district centre, Pomio.
The official says a quake of that size is unlikely to have caused a tsunami but might have caused some damage to properties.
