Two Chinese nationals await deportation over illegal stay in Samoa

3:09 pm on 20 June 2007

Two Chinese nationals have been arrested in Samoa and are now awaiting deportation.

The pair, along with another man, arrived in the country two weeks ago from American Samoa.

They were meant to leave that same day on a flight to Fiji to make a connection to China.

However, the men stayed on, living with a local family.

The third member of the group has applied for a temporary permit, because his Samoan wife is pregnant.

Meanwhile Samoa's immigration department says another man who arrived earlier this week from American Samoa, and who also did not leave on his scheduled flight, has since been caught and deported from the country.
