Aloha Airlines suffers a loss in American Samoa

Hawaii's Aloha Airlines has posted a US$24.3 million loss in the first quarter, up from a $20.3 million loss in the same period last year.

The U.S. Department of Transportation says that its Aloha Airlines 14th consecutive quarterly loss.

The DOT says the airline's operating revenues fell more than 10-percent during the first three months of the year to $88.1 million, and expenses rose 7 percent to $109.9 million .

The airline's losses is due to rising fuel costs and an ongoing price war for interisland airfares.
