Fiji interim government says opposition will only strengthen their resolve

6:35 pm on 29 June 2007

Fiji's deputy military commander says opposition to their cause will only strengthen and harden their resolve to achieve the objectives set during the military takeover.

Navy Captain Esala Teleni also says their objectives will be achieved before Fiji goes to the polls.

Radio Legend says Captain Teleni made the comment while addressing the passing out parade of 175 new military recruits near Suva.

He says the military will not be bullied or swayed by any opposition, whether this be from some in the NGO community, the legal fraternity or court cases filed by the SDL party.

Captain Teleni says their objectives include weeding out corruption, and good governance.

The deputy commander says the military has always been a supportive power to the state and the defender of Fiji's sovereignty, its people and interests.
