The ousted SDL party in Fiji says the stand taken by New Zealand is a reflection that no responsible government would condone a military takeover.

In response to the expulsion of New Zealand's high commissioner to Fiji, New Zealand has widened its travel sanctions against coup supporters to stop them transiting the country.

The Fiji times reports the SDL party director, Peceli Kinivuwai, is saying that New Zealand could have banned everyone but instead imposed sanctions on those associated with the regime.

The National Federation Party general secretary, Pramod Rae, agrees and says Fiji should be grateful that the extension of the ban was mild.
