7:07 am on 4 July 2007

Five public servants and MPs in Solomon Islands are facing a surcharge penalty as the government continued its crackdown on careless drivers.

The Solomon Star reports the heavy penalties total 25,304 US dollars and the finance minister Gordon Darcy Lilo signed the documents to surcharge the five.

Gordon Darcy Lilo warned that more officers who crash and damage state vehicles will join the growing penalty list.

It's not clear how many MPs were included in the latest penalties.
