Fiji rugby legend resigns coaching role

8:33 am on 7 July 2007

Waisele Serevi, the man who mesmerized the rugby sevens world for almost 20 years with his extraordinary skill and talent, has resigned as coach of the Fiji national 7s side.

The resignation came after an hour long meeting with officials of the Fiji Rugby Union yesterday.

The Fiji icon cited personal reasons for the shock resignation.

Serevi denied he was forced to quit following allegations of mismanagement.

He added that it had nothing to do with money but everything to do with the ride, prestige and honour that he had for his country and its people.

It is understood Serevi will leave soon for South Africa to pursue a coaching contract.
