Fiji Home Affairs Ministry puts former CEO of national broadcaster on 'watch list'

It has emerged that the Fiji Home Affairs Ministry is responsible for preventing the former CEO of the national broadcaster from leaving the country.

The Director of Immigration in Fiji, Commander Viliame Naupoto, says he received the request to put Francis Herman on the Immigration Watch List.

Mr Herman, who stepped down as head of Fiji Broadcasting last month, was due to have flown to Australia to address a conference of communications professionals.

The List is used by the police, the military and the government to prevent people from leaving the country but Commander Naupoto says he does not know why Mr Herman is on the list.

"It could be that there are some investigations that are ongoing that they need him to be in the country to either answer questions to or something like that."
