8:31 am on 7 July 2007

Senior officers in the Fiji Police Force are expected to be sent on leave due to pending internal investigations.

The Fijilive website reports the newly appointed police commissioner, Captain Esala Teleni, as saying that his number one priority is to discharge or terminate some officers.

Commissioner Teleni says the changes will be similar to the way the military force executes its duties and roles.

He says police will take the lead role in any security situation or emergency and will work together with the military.

He also says communications in the police force will be a priority.
