Solomons to hold two by-elections in half a year

1:41 pm on 11 July 2007

Two by-elections are planned in Solomon Islands in December or early next year.

The Aoke Langalanga seat became vacant after the death of a former prime minister, Batholomew Ulufa'alu, and the East Malaita seat after a government minister, Joses Sanga, died.

The chief electoral officer, Musu Kevu, says the Electoral Office has put forward two options for the by-elections to be held at the end of this year, or early next year.

The decision will be made by the Electoral Commission.
