A number of foreign private investment groups say they are interested in investing in the Solomon Islands fisheries industry.

It follows the government's announcement of plans to restructure the country's entire fisheries industry on the advice of the Fisheries Advisory Council.

Solomon Islands is within one of the world's richest tuna vicinities known as the 'tuna belt' which accounts for a significant proportion of the entire global tuna catch worth over 6-billion US dollars per year.

The government hopes the restructuring will make the industry more profitable and attract more long-term investment.
