The Solomon Islands opposition has filed a no confidence motion in the prime minister, Manasseh Sogavare.
The opposition spokesperson for finance and treasury, Edward Huniehu, says such a move is in the country's best interest.
"Following that meeting of the opposition group yesterday, I was mandated to move a motion of no confidence into the prime minister next Friday when parliament resumes on Thursday. The vote of no confidence has already been registered with the clark of parliament and it will be moved on Friday."
Edward Huniehu says they made the decision amid recent controversial government decisions, including the appointment of Julian Moti as Attorney General, and the appointment of a new police commissioner, Jahir Khan.
