The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands wants the low-cost carrier Polynesian Blue to service CNMI routes.

The Marianas Variety quotes the governor's senior policy advisor, Ramon Mafnas saying that the acting governor has met with Polynesian Blue officials.

Polynesian Blue is a joint venture between the government of Samoa and Virgin Blue.

The governor's press secretary Charles Reyes Jr. says the advantages of low-cost carriers over charter airlines include reduced handling charges and low maintenance costs.
