Kiribati's chief electoral officer says its considering ways to better monitor next month's national election.

Nominations for candidates contesting seats for next month's national election close next Wednesday.

Kiribati voters will go to the polls on August 22.

Electoral commissioner, Rine Ueara, says candidates standing in 23 electoral districts will contest for 44 seats in parliament.

She says the commission is already considering ways to ensure voting is free, fair and transparent.

"If we receive problems and issues during elections from now and the end of elections, the commission will take up the issues and deal with it, but for fair elections, we have electoral office on every island."
