The American Samoa Chamber of Commerce has thrown its support behind moves for the territory to become a member of the Pacific Island Development Bank.

The Guam-based bank belongs to the Association of Pacific Island Legislatures which met in Pago Pago recently.

The Chamber President David Robinson and managers of American Samoa's two main commercial banks had earlier questioned the benefits of joining the Pacific Island Development Bank.

They had suggested that the one million US dollar fee to become a member be given to the American Samoa Development Bank.

Mr Robinson now says the chamber will support American Samoa's membership with the regional institution after hearing the Governor Togiola Tulafono's reasons.
