The mayor of Taelefaga in Samoa says a decision has not been made for the village to sue the government and the Electric Power Corporation over pollution.

Tulima Sa told the Samoa Observer he was surprised with a radio report that his village was taking legal action.

Tulima said it's true that the village has hired a lawyer but the village has not made a decision to take EPC and Government to court at this time.

He said the village always discusses any concerns with the government first and unless the government rejects their wishes will it consider court action.

Mayor Tulima said their village does endure a foul smell coming from a stream linked to Taelefaga Power Station.

Water flows from Afulilo Dam through the power station and into the stream that flows through Taelefaga, which is a coastal village.

He said oil leaking at the power station also ends up in the stream.
