Calls for Pacific islands states to commit to bringing better air services to their countries

The Pacific Islands Forum's joint air services taskforce says Pacific Small Island States should commit to a collaborative approach to bring better air services to their countries.

The taskforce met last week in Fiji.

It suggested that the SIS leaders pursue a sub-regional collective approach towards securing air services on the premise that air services are the key, rather than nations having their own airlines.

The taskforce also recommended that the supply of a purpose built ship for the SIS feeder shipping service be investigated, along with discussions with a donor willing to fund it long term.
