Samoa's government cuts back Teuila Festival for lack of funds

Samoa's annual Teuila week festival in early September will be for three days only because of the unavailability of funds as government is committed to host the13th South Pacific Games next month which will start on the last week of August.

A number of festivities such as Samoan cricket league for men and women as well as the hymns competition have been dropped as a result.

The Miss South Pacific pageant which Samoa is to host this year and the finale of the festival has been pushed back to October.

A senior officer at the Samoa Tourism authority says the lack of public funds which are usually utilize to run the festival is the main reason behind the decision to shorten the one week event
