A Special Representative of Turkey is in Tonga
to discuss it's application to gain a seat on the United Nations Security Council in 2009.
Nezihi Ozkaya told Radio Tonga there is a need to build a more concrete relationship between the two nations.
He says there are other areas where Turkey can lend a hand to build the bilateral ties with Tonga.
Mr Ozkaya says one of their intentions is to approach the Pacific Islands Forum with the intention of becoming a dialogue partner.
The meeting is due to be held in Tonga this year.
