The Police Commissioner in Solomon Islands, Jahir Khan, is challenging people who are questioning his appointment to take the matter to court.

In a media conference, Mr Khan said he is trying to help Solomon Islands police regain its integrity.

The Commissioner says as far as he is concerned his appointment was fair and transparent and in line with the requirements of the constitution.

Mr Khan said he is putting much energy into the restructuring of the police and there is a lot more work to be done to bring up the credibility and respectability of Solomon Islands police.

The Solomon Island Broadcasting Corporation says Mr Khan is very concerned about the pay structure of the police force, adding that police officers are inadequately paid.
