Some additional funding is expected to be given to the Solomon Islands Police force by the government.

The Police Commissioner, Mohammed Jahir Khan, says he's put in a request for a supplementary budget to cover over expenditure in areas like telecommunications and fuel.

He says there are also plans to provide uniforms and pay monies owed to officers when salaries were missed during the time of the ethnic tension.

Mr Khan says in addition to the police's annual budget of 68 million Solomon Islands dollars, he's requested 18 million dollars or 2.6 million U.S. dollars.

"I don't think the government will be able to give me the 18 million but I have the wind that there is a portion of my request has been accepted by the Finance which are putting to the cabinet a finance paper for the adoption in the parliament. But, whatever is given will be handy."
