The president of American Samoa's senate has asked for the Manu'a Islands to be included in the undersea fiber optic cable project, along with the main island of Tutuila.

The territory's Governor, Togiola Tulafono, says if all goes well, American Samoa should be connected to the fiber optic by early 2009.

Senate President Lolo Moliga says the business, economic and social benefits which prompted the governor's enthusiasm for the initiative also apply to the Manu'a Islands.

He says it's his strong belief that the cable project will boost current efforts to promote the development and repopulating the Islands.
