150 former Samoan police officers have been re-hired by the Ministry of Police and Prisons to bolster security during the South Pacific Games.

The former officers will work with current police to provide security for the village where athletes from 29 regional countries and territories will be accommodated.

The two-week event centred on Apia gets underway on August 25th.

The Minister of Police, Tole'afoa Apulu Fa'afisi, says the ex- police members were selected from those who had resigned and not the ones whose contracts were terminated.

Tole'afoa says there are also non-members of the force who will work as volunteers
