20,000 US military personnel, three aircraft carriers, six submarines and 60 aircraft are involved in a U.S. naval and air exercise off Guam.

The Pacific Daily News reports that Valiant Shield 2007, began yesterday and runs through August 13th, will have a big impact on Guam's economy.

The sailors, marines and airmen are expected to spend 200 to 300 US dollars a day when they're on shore.

The newspaper said that restaurants, bars and clubs, in particular, are prepared for a surge in business.

Gerald Perez, chairman of the Guam Chamber of Commerce Armed Forces Committee, added that other businesses would also see a boost in sales.
