50'000 condoms have been ordered for the participants of the South Pacific Games in Samoa later this month.

Samoa's safe games committee is to promote safe sex among the 5,000 athletes expected from 29 Pacific countries and territories.

The committee secretary, Neli Wightman, says there won't be a shortage of condoms during the Games as each athlete will be given a supply in their safe games kit.

The move comes after some members of the public asked about access to condoms for those at the two-week sporting event.

The HIV positive athletes and officials are also welcome according to a statement from the committee.
