Tana Umaga plays his last provincial match before heading to France

His commitment to Wellington rugby will no doubt be recognised as he runs onto Westpac Stadium for the last time for their Air New Zealand cup match against Manawatu . The first ever Samoan All Black captain Tana will play his 100th match in a provincial career that stretches back to 1994... And while he has many fond memories, being appointed All Black captain rates highly.

"It's the ultimate honour really, other than playing your first test, obviously you go on and play more if you ever get the opportunity, it's only the chosen few that get it, and to be one of the chosen ones, is something that will obviously live with you forever, oh shucks not many people can say they captained the All Blacks and I'm one of them."

Umaga heads to France next week, and All Black coach Graham Henry says he's always admired Umaga and his legacy....

I've got a huge amount of time for Tana, and I'm sure the team has got a huge amount of time for Tana, he was a captain before Richie, I think he's a top person a top individual and obviously a great rugby player, he's an icon in the game, and from the All Blacks we wish him well, he deserves some time in the sun in Toulon and I'm sure he'll do that.
