Canberra and Wellington to meet to consider RAMSI planning for next six months

The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands will be holding its planning meeting in a few weeks time in Honiara.

Officials from Canberra and Wellington will be converging on the capital to map out the next six months of the mission in the country.

Political commentators in Solomon Islands are saying Canberra and Wellington will have to be cautious about the political situation brewing in the country with the new Attorney General installed.

A motion of no confidence was withdrawn by the opposition on Friday following a legal challenge lodged by the Attorney General on behalf of the government, questioning the legality of the motion and the neutrality of the Speaker of Parliament, Sir Peter Kenilorea.

Our correspondent in Honira says the political wrangling is leaving or partners nervous about the security situation, and Solomon Islanders remembering the days leading up to the riots in the capital in April last year.
