The Governor of Commonwealth of Northern Marianas, Benigno Fitial has met with a San Francisco-based firm seeking to introduce different sources of renewable energy to the CNMI.

The Saipan Tribune reports Governor Fitial saying that the administration is talking with Gold Pact Power about the billion-dollar project.

He says it is an ambitious project that involves windmill, biodiesel, hydrogen, and geothermal energy from the volcanoes north of Saipan.

Gold Pact wants to lease Goat Island to put up a wind farm, and also build a research and development center for renewable energy.

Several investors are willing to fund the multi-phase project if approved, and the company could proceed with the project in six months to two years.
