The Chief Executive of the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs, Dr Colin Tukuitonga believes Pacific country's should question statistics released by the United Nations agencies.

Dr Tukuitonga, who was spent three years at the World Health Organisation in Geneva, says the guidelines and priority interventions not just within WHO but with a lot of the UN agencies are designed for other parts of the world.

He says often it's just blindly applied, but Pacific countries are reluctant to challenge it.

"People not questioning it because they fear losing the money that comes with it and so I do think it has a very negative impact sometimes, and I know in health I often say well that might be fine in other parts of the world but this is not what the Pacific would benefit from "
