American Samoa Governor says undersea fibre optic cable delayed

7:26 am on 16 August 2007

The American Samoan governor, Togiola Tulafono, says there will be a delay in linking the territory to an undersea fibre optic cable.

It was planned for early 2008, but Togiola says the link will probably not happen until later next year.

He says this is due to the lack of an agreement during ongoing negotiations with the New Zealand company that owns one of the cable wire that runs through the region.

Togiola did point out that talks continue with the people involved in the New Zealand company and the next meeting is set for late August in Honolulu.
