American Samoa's Governor, Togiola Tulafono, is preparing an executive order that would impose an embargo on the importation of all goods from mainland China.

He has also instructed the Department of Health to form a task force to monitor all Chinese manufactured goods that enter the Territory.

The governor's action follows reports of recalls for toys manufactured in China that contain lead paint, and small magnets that could be swallowed by young children.

He says the embargo will remain in force until the administration determines "case by case" which products are safe for importation and sale in American Samoa
