American Samoa's Governor imposes embargo on imports from China

The American Samoa Governor Togiola Tulafono is preparing to impose an embargo on imports from China.

It follows the international recall of some toys manufactured in China that contain lead paint, and magnets that could be ingested by young children.

Besides the toy products, Togiola has asked health officials to consider other media reports that some Chinese products may contain poisonous chemicals.

Togiola wants a task force set up to collect and examine samples of Chinese imports to determine their safety.

He says he is preparing an executive order to impose an embargo on the importation of all goods from mainland China until the government can determine, case by case, which products are safe.
