The New Caledonian pro-independence umbrella group, FLNKS, is confident it will win four seats in this week's government election.

The 54-seat congress is holding fresh elections after FLNKS resigned from an earlier administration, saying a balloting error had cost it one seat.

Eight anti-independence and three pro-independence ministers were selected in the election held earlier this month.

A spokesperson for FLNKS, Nicole Waia, says she is confident about the outcome of this week's election:

"We will present a list of unity and we are sure to win the fourth seat."
