Cook Islands delegation holds discussions with New Zealand government

The Cook Islands deputy prime minister, Sir Terepai Maoate, is in New Zealand for talks with the government on funding and loan issues.

Sir Terepai will meet with the Foreign Affairs Minister, Winston Peters, tomorrow in Wellington and is also expected to hold discussions with his counterpart, Michael Cullen.

Among other things, discussions are to centre on funding and loan options for major infrastructure development in the Cook Islands.

There will also be a request from the Minister of Justice, Tangata Vavia, who is with the delegation, for technical assistance from New Zealand to help improve their Justice and Corrections service.
