Villa of former president of Court of Appeal in Fiji destroyed in fire

11:05 am on 27 August 2007

A private villa belonging to the former president of the Fiji Court of Appeal, Justice Gordon Ward, was completely destroyed in a fire on Saturday night.

Justice Ward did not seek reappointment when his contract as Appeal Court president expired at the end of June this year and is currently reported to be in Ireland.

The villa was located at Pacific Harbour about 50 kilometres west of Suva close to the Lagoon Hotel.

The hotel's managing director, Jim Sherlock, has told the Fiji Times an investigation is warranted because every part of the house was ablaze very quickly.

The Navua Fire Brigade which responded to the call from 15km away was not able to save the building.
