Awareness campaigns have been running alongside Games preparations.
SPREP's Education and Social communications Officer, Tamara Logan, says with help from the Ministry of Natural Resources the programmes to keep Samoa clean appears to be working.
"Samoa's looking fantastic at the moment all the villages have really helped to try and Green Samoa into preparation for the Games, the Ministry has also made sure there are cycling bins available so people will be able to put their recyclable materials in special bins, and they're really doing a good job supporting the tree planting, they're actually driving the planting component of the campaign."
