12:57 pm on 27 August 2007

The secretary of the Safe Games Campaign committee for the South Pacific Games in Samoa has expressed surprise at the decision not to distribute female condoms to athletes.

The committee secretary, Nellie Wightman, says the issue has created some confusion among the athletes with some claiming the female condoms were for lesbians only.

The Safe Games Committee is working to raise the awareness of safe sex and sexually transmitted diseases.

It plans extra publicity events in the centre of Apia tomorrow.
