American Samoa to check on sewing shops hiring foreigners

1:30 pm on 27 August 2007

All Pago Pago sewing shops can expect an immigration review of employees as more Asians are hired in small businesses in American Samoa.

The Attorney General's office is proposed to conduct the review at the request of the American Samoa Senate President, Lolo M. Moliga.

Lolo says there is a large number of Asians, especially Filipino, working in a number of sewing shops.

In recent weeks, Governor Togiola Tulafono received complaints about the increasing number of Asians working in sewing shops in the Pago Pago region.

But Governor Tulafono was informed that all Asian employees had the correct documentation.
