American Samoa's Red Cross receives several containers of emergency supplies

9:18 am on 28 August 2007

The local chapter of the American Red Cross has received the first of several containers of emergency supplies from the Red Cross headquarters in Washington D.C.

The supplies include tarpaulins, tents, cots, two burner stoves, flashlights and blankets.

The Chairperson of the local Red Cross, Brenda Tanoi, says having a ready supply of necessities on hand would enable the local chapter to give immediate help to victims of disasters.

Tanoi said that these are the same supplies that the Red Cross draws on to help families displaced by fires.

The local Red Cross will receive close to 670,000 US dollars worth of emergency supplies from the national organisation.
