New record time for the running of the famous Kokoda Track

A Papua New Guinean trekking porter has broken the record for running the Kokoda Track, beating the record time he set last year.

Brendan Buka, 23, ran the gruelling 96 kilometre track from Kokoda to Owers' Corner in 17 hours 20 minutes at the weekend.

Buka won 5,000 kina, or about 1800 US dollars, for being first home among the around 60 competitors, and another 5,000 kina for breaking the record.
