First medals decided at the South Pacific Games

Nauru's Suzanne Hiram has been in devastating form in collecting the first gold medals of the 13th South pacific Games in Samoa.

In the women's 48kg weightlifting category Harem has set new records in the snatch, 80kgs, and clean and jerk, 84 kgs, to win the golds on offer plus the gold for overall competition winner.

Papua New Guinea's Kathleen Hare won silver and Nauru's Utako Alik bronze.

In the 53kg category Papua New Guinea's Dika Toua repeated Hiram's effort picking up the three gold on offer.

Toua set a new pacific record of 80kgs in the snatch and an impressive new bench mark in the clean and jerk of 103kgs

The silver has been picked up by Samoa's Urima Teryll while Alice Kawia'a from the Solomon Islands pocketed the bronze
