Star Kist Samoa to expand pouch production

9:33 am on 1 September 2007

Star Kist Samoa has confirmed that it is expanding pouch production capacity at its Satala plant in American Samoa.

The cannery had initially planned to begin the expansion in July but after the minimum wage increase was passed, put the pouch plans on hold.

But Delmonte, which is the owner of Star Kist Samoa, says it will install additional pouch filling capacity at its local plant.

This is to meet increased demand for pouch tuna products during the Lenten season, the peak consumption period for tuna products.

About 150 casual workers will be needed for the new pouch lines and they should begin working in December.
