The police in Samoa have charged a member of a band from Fiji for possession of an illegal drug after it was detected by a sniffer dog at Faleolo International Airport.

A small amount of cannabis was found in the possession of the musician who is part of Fiji's George Veikoso band.

The police say the bust is part of the security operation in place for the South Pacific Games.

This is the first case of sniffer dogs finding illegal drugs since the police and customs office started using the dogs at Samoa's main ports of entry
