Westech says Vatakoula mine in Fiji poses no environmental risk

The new owners of Fiji's Vatakoula mine, Westech Gold, says there is no risk to the environment from its operation.

The comment comes after the director of environment, Epeli Nasone, said it would be disastrous if water from the mine overflowed.

But the director of Westech, Brian Wesson, says there is no reason to be concerned about pollution at the mine.

"There is absolutely no environmental issue. We've got our own water lab as well which tests water throughout the mine. There has never been an issue and there won't be an issue."
